Leverage the

Power of Us

We are a collective of educators, artists, policy advocates, writers, parents, business and community leaders who bring their lived experience and knowledge to support your teams to reimagine and create more equitable and sustainable workplaces.

Our Story

The Justice Collective (TJC) is a social impact consultancy that centers racial and social equity.

We specialize in organizational development that takes a racially centered lens to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion r(EDI) through training, facilitated retreats and conversations, forensic culture audits, and our signature r(EDI) Roadmaps. Our experts bring leadership, management, policy, programs, sales, education, and strategy expertise from all sectors. We are data and empathy-driven problem solvers who go powerfully beyond typical metrics to have an organizational impact.

Founded in Oakland, CA and led by Ellie Tumbuan, and Lena Carew, TJC formed in response to the Movement for Black Lives and growing concerns of rising injustices. We help identify critical challenges and leverage opportunities to take measurable steps towards a bolder vision for our workplaces and our communities. Since 2015, we have evolved into a company that empowers and equips leaders and teams, with essential tools to become change agents within their organizations, companies, and movements.

We unlock and uplift the abundant talent, passion and motivation inside organizations to help rebuild a workplace, and world, that is aligned to r(EDI) practices

Our Vision

Our vision is a liberated world in which we work together to dismantle systems of anti-Blackness, white supremacy, and oppression. Power is equitably distributed, leadership is empathetic, and justice is a collective responsibility. A liberated world requires that the conditions exist for self-determination and prosperity irrespective of race, gender, class, sexual orientation, ability, or nationality.

What it’s like to consult with TJC…

“The difference with TJC is that racial justice is at the center of everything they do. And they are not [for lack of a better term] pussyfooting around that. Some folks who work with diversity have to go in the side door, but they don’t do that. I feel like that’s a huge part of why I like working with them.”

Elana Isaacs, TJC Consultant and Co-Founder of Beyond Separation

“Watching Lena, Ellie, and Danni work is like going to school and learning strategy, negotiation, protocol, and how to design a really strong scope of work that is supported by a bigger framework that is built around a theory of change.”

Mel Saavedra, TJC Consultant

“When we finished all the data collection and report writing for both projects, what was really striking is that [the client] was moved by the assessment and the report. They said, ‘This is a sacred document.’ Someone called it ‘beautiful.’”

Nicole Leopardo, TJC Consultant and Lecturer at the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University
